DAY 1: Once Upon a Time in Olympia

The ancient city of Olympia was the site of the first ever Olympic Games. They were held in 776 BC. During these games, men from Greece were invited to participate in one or more of the following events – running, jumping, discus throwing, wrestling, boxing,
pankration, horse and chariot races, and the pentathlon. The ancient Olympic Games came to an end in 393 AD, approximately 1000 years after they had first started.

Activity 1: Let’s imagine that you were alive 2792 years ago and invited to compete in the first ever ancient Olympic Games. Which of these events: running, wrestling, boxing, pankration, horse racing and pentathlon would you compete in? Click on the name of the sport and it will take you to a site that tells you about the sport. On your blog tell us which sport you would choose and why you chose it.

My Answer:
- To be honest if I had completed in the Olympic Games, 2792 years ago, I will want to complete in the other event which is running.

  1. Hi Henrietta!

Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme. I am so happy that you have joined us this holiday! I am also really happy to see that you've posted a blog about your sporting choice. To be honest, I would have made exactly the same choice. I, too, would have been a middle distance runner. I am not fast enough to be a good sprinter or fit enough to be a long distance (endurance) athlete. The middle distance is perfect for me!

I hope that you will continue to blog with us over the holidays. I am having a great time reading everyone's blogs and posting comments. They are all so interesting! I'm sure that yours will be exactly the same. Speaking of reading and commenting, I'm just about to read your next post. I'm sure that I'll love it!

    Cheers,

    Rachel :)

  2. Hi Henrietta!

Welcome to the Winter Learning Journey programme. I am so sorry but for some reason all of my previous comments have not appeared on your site and I feel just terrible! I have been reading your posts and actively commenting on your blogs but, for some reason, the comments haven't been published. Oh, no!

Well, I will just comment again :) For your first post, I really wanted to comment on the great choice that you made in selecting middle distance running. I, too, would have made that choice. I don't think that I could have handled sprinting or long distance running because I would have become too tired so the middle distance seems just right! Why did you choose the middle distance? I'd love to know :)

Keep up the great work with your blogging. I really love your posts and I will look forward to re-posting my comments!

    Cheers, Rachel :)
