Bonus Activity:
Now it’s time to start your tour! Curious Kiwi decides to start by taking you on a short tour through downtown Auckland. You stop at the Sky Tower, the tallest building in all of New Zealand. When you look up, you see a huge New Zealand flag on the top of the tower. This flag was created back in 1902. That makes the New Zealand flag 115 years old!
Last year, the Prime Minister of New Zealand suggested that we should replace the flag with a new, updated design. He invited everyone in New Zealand to come up with their own flag design and submit it.
For this activity, it is your turn to design a new flag. Use any drawing programme that you wish. I would recommend the Flag Designer website. It allows you to create a flag in three easy steps. When you are done, take a screenshot of your flag and post it on your blog. To earn full points you must describe the flag, in words, below the picture. Please tell us what is on the flag and what inspired your design.
I have created a flag that I have used with my knowledge.
First of all the red at the background represent my culture which is Tongan.
Secondly the cross on the side represent my Religion which is being a Catholic. Last but not least the stars shows you the people in my family that has passed and will never be forgotten.
Hi Henrietta,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see a bold reflection of your culture on this flag. I love how you have originated the red to symbolize to your Tongan culture. This flag has a wonderful representation of your religious and personal background. I am inspired that you acknowledge your family members who have gone. I can only imagine the impact they have made in your life in the past.
May I ask why you have chosen to articulate your stars in a circle? Are there any other influential people, events or activities that would also represent your identity? You have given me some great ideas to use this as an activity with my students at Hillsborough Primary. I believe this is a perfect example of expanding personal profile.
Thank you for sharing this with us.
