Activity 1 Day 5: Eddie the Eagle

Activity 1: Some Olympic athletes become famous not because they win but because they have an amazing attitude and great determination. They are sometimes called ‘underdogs.’ One of the most famous ‘underdogs’ in Olympic history was a man named Michael Edwards. He was a ski jumper from England who competed in the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary, Canada. Although he came last in the event, he never gave up. Recently, a movie has been made about his life.

- It is calledEddie the Eagle. For this activity, watch the trailer for Eddie the Eagle and then post a summary of the movie on your blog. What is the movie about?

- The movie is about a old man named 'Michael Edwards, but some people like calling him Eddie the Eagle.

- Eddie the eagles dream was to compete in the Olympics because that what he wanted to do.But there will always be some people that would make him feel upset or sad which is not a very nice thing to do.

  1. Hi Henrietta,

I felt sad for Michael ("Eddie") in this video clip as well. He had a very clear dream and he wasn't very well supported by the people in his life, with the exception of his mum. She believed in him and she supported his dreams. I think that it is so important to have people in your life who will support you and encourage you. I am really lucky because my son, Aronui, does that for me. He's only six years old but he's one of my biggest cheerleaders. Who, in your life, best supports and encourages you? If you've like to earn some points for posting a blog about people who support and inspire you, you can check out Day 5, Bonus Activity.

Great work with your blogging, Henrietta. Keep it up!

    Cheers, Rachel :)
